How to use it

Features

Public IP address

The address you go online with, plus the protocol version — IPv4 or IPv6. This is the one tech support asks for and the one that gets added to access allowlists.

Location and ISP

The country, region, and city the address is mapped to, the name of the ISP, and the time zone.

Browser details

The User-Agent string: your browser, its version, and your operating system. Handy when a developer or a support agent asks for your “browser and OS.”

Questions and answers

What is an IP address?

A numeric address of a device or network on the internet. It tells websites where to send their response. IPv4 is written as four numbers separated by dots; IPv6 as groups of hexadecimal digits separated by colons.

What is the difference between a public and a private IP address?

A private address (for example, 192.168.1.5) is assigned by your router to a device inside your home or office network. A public address is assigned by your ISP — every device behind the router goes online under it. This page shows the public one.

Why does it show the wrong city?

IP geolocation is approximate: an address is tied to the ISP’s equipment, not to your home. Often the city shown is where the ISP’s network node is located, and if you are using a VPN, you will see the country of the VPN server.

Why does my IP address change?

Most home and mobile connections have a dynamic address: the ISP assigns it temporarily and may change it after the router restarts. A permanent (static) address is usually a separate paid option.

How do I hide my IP address?

With a VPN or a proxy: websites will see the address of the intermediate server instead of yours. You can check the result right here — open this page with the VPN turned on.

Need a custom service or work on your website?

We built these tools ourselves. We build websites, client dashboards, and internal business services the same way — and take over support of ones that are already running.
